Owner-Controller Connection Fault
Allen-Bradley · Compact 5000 Digital I/O Modules
What does ConnectionFaulted mean?
This module-wide fault indicates that the owner-controller has lost its communication connection to the module. This condition affects all channels simultaneously and can be caused by network issues or a deliberate module inhibition. The tag provides module-wide data.
Common Causes
- Physical disconnection or damage of the EtherNet/IP communication cable to the module or network switch
- Network communication failure (e.g., unresponsive switch port, IP address conflict)
- Module power loss or reset
- Controller transition to Program mode, inhibiting active communication
- Module explicitly inhibited in the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Verify the physical EtherNet/IP cable connection at the module and at the network switch. Ensure the cable is secure and undamaged.
- 2
Check the link and activity status indicators on the module's EtherNet/IP port and the corresponding network switch port.
- 3
From the controller's network, attempt to ping the module's configured IP address to verify network connectivity.
- 4
Verify the module's power supply and status indicators to ensure it is powered on and not in a fault state.
- 5
In the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application, verify that the module is not inhibited.
