CriticalTemperature

Module Critical Temperature

Allen-Bradley · Compact 5000 Digital I/O Modules

What does CriticalTemperature mean?

This diagnostic indicates that the module is above its critical temperature limit, representing a more severe thermal condition than 'OverTemperature'. This condition can lead to immediate shutdown, module malfunction, and 'Uncertain' data quality, with a high risk of permanent damage. The tag automatically resets to 0 when the condition is removed.

Common Causes

  • Extreme ambient temperature conditions, significantly exceeding the module's operating limits
  • Complete failure of the enclosure's cooling system (e.g., fans, air conditioning)
  • Prolonged operation under severe overload conditions, leading to rapid heat buildup

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Immediately reduce the ambient temperature around the module or safely shut down the affected system to prevent permanent damage.

  2. 2

Verify the functionality of all cooling systems (fans, air conditioning) for the enclosure.

  3. 3

Allow the module to cool down completely to a normal operating temperature before attempting to restart or re-enable the system.
