Overload Fault diagnostic

Safety Output Overload Fault Active

Allen-Bradley · Compact 5000 Digital I/O Modules

What does Overload Fault diagnostic mean?

This diagnostic indicates an overload condition on a safety output point Ptxx. When an output is overloaded, the module detects this, sets the Overload Fault diagnostic, and also the I.Ptxx.Fault tag, rendering the output data untrustworthy and turning off the output.

Common Causes

  • The connected load's operating current drawn from output point Ptxx exceeds the maximum permissible current for that specific output channel.
  • Malfunctioning load device drawing excessive current.
  • Incorrect selection of load type or size for the module's output specifications.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Identify the load device connected to the faulted output point Ptxx.

  2. 2

Measure the operating current drawn by the load connected to Ptxx using an ammeter to verify it is within the module's specified output current limits (refer to module technical data, publication 5069-TD001).

  3. 3

Reduce the load connected to Ptxx, or replace the load device with one that matches the module's output current specifications.

  4. 4

Ensure the overload condition is removed.
