ShortCircuitGround
Short Circuit to Ground
Allen-Bradley · Compact 5000 Digital I/O Modules
What does ShortCircuitGround mean?
This diagnostic indicates that a short circuit to ground condition exists on an output point. This means the output wiring or the connected load has inadvertently made contact with the protective earth ground or a grounded enclosure. The tag automatically resets to 0 when the condition is removed.
Common Causes
- Output wiring insulation breakdown, causing contact with a grounded surface or enclosure
- Internal fault within the load device causing its output terminal to short to ground
- Incorrect wiring where the output terminal is directly connected to ground
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Disconnect the load from the affected output terminal.
- 2
Use a multimeter to measure resistance between the output terminal and protective earth ground — expect a very high resistance (open circuit).
- 3
Visually inspect all physical wiring associated with the affected output for damaged insulation or contact with grounded components.
