Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 4 Adjustable Frequency AC Drive
24 fault codes documented
Parameter Checksum
A checksum error has occurred within the drive's parameter memory, indicating potential corruption or inconsistency in the stored parameter values. This can lead to unpredictable drive behavior.
HW OverCurrent
A hardware-level overcurrent condition has been detected, indicating an immediate excessive current draw. This could stem from incorrect programming, a severe motor overload, improper DC boost settings, or excessively high DC brake voltage.
I/O Board Fail
A fault has been detected within the drive's internal I/O board hardware. This indicates a potential malfunction of the input/output processing circuitry, affecting control signals.
Ground Fault
A ground fault has been detected, indicating an unintended current path from the motor phases or external wiring to ground. This protection prevents electrical shock and damage to the drive or motor.
Auxiliary Input
This fault indicates an issue with the auxiliary input signal. This input is typically configured via parameter A051 or A052 (Digital In1 Sel/Digital In2 Sel) with option 3 ('Aux Fault'). It signals an abnormal condition detected by the auxiliary input circuit.
Power Loss
This fault occurs when the drive detects a low voltage condition or an interruption on the incoming AC power line. This can lead to unstable operation or unexpected shutdowns.
AutoRstrt Tries
This fault indicates that the drive has reached the maximum configured number of automatic restart attempts (set by parameter A092 [AutoRstrt Tries]) after a preceding fault. This signifies a persistent underlying fault condition that requires manual intervention.
Phase U to Gnd
A grounded phase condition has been detected specifically on motor phase U or in the wiring connecting drive output terminal U to the motor. This indicates a direct short path to ground.
Phase V to Gnd
A grounded phase condition has been detected specifically on motor phase V or in the wiring connecting drive output terminal V to the motor. This indicates a direct short path to ground.
UnderVoltage
An undervoltage fault indicates that the incoming AC line voltage has dropped below the drive's acceptable operating threshold. This can be caused by power sags or prolonged low line voltage conditions.
Phase W to Gnd
A grounded phase condition has been detected specifically on motor phase W or in the wiring connecting drive output terminal W to the motor. This indicates a direct short path to ground.
Phase UV Short
A short circuit condition has been detected between motor phases U and V, or in the wiring connecting drive output terminals U and V to the motor. This indicates an unintended low-resistance path between these phases.
Phase UW Short
A short circuit condition has been detected between motor phases U and W, or in the wiring connecting drive output terminals U and W to the motor. This indicates an unintended low-resistance path between these phases.
Phase VW Short
A short circuit condition has been detected between motor phases V and W, or in the wiring connecting drive output terminals V and W to the motor. This indicates an unintended low-resistance path between these phases.
Params Defaulted
This fault indicates that the drive has either been commanded to restore factory default values to its EEPROM, or a corruption of parameter data occurred spontaneously. This resets all configurable parameters.
OverVoltage
This fault signals that the AC line voltage or the DC bus voltage has exceeded its maximum permissible level. High line voltage, transient conditions, or motor regeneration (motor acting as a generator during deceleration) are common causes. Overvoltage can damage drive components.
Motor Stalled
A motor stalled fault occurs when the motor's speed drops significantly while the drive is commanding output, indicating an excessive mechanical load. This causes the drive's output current to exceed the limit set by parameter A089 [Current Limit].
SW OverCurrent
A software-detected overcurrent condition has occurred, meaning the instantaneous output current has exceeded the trip level configured by parameter A098 [SWCurrent Trip]. This is a configurable threshold for current monitoring.
Drive Overload
This fault indicates that the drive itself has experienced an overload condition, where its internal thermal model or output current has exceeded safe limits over a period of time. This protects the drive's power components from overheating.
Motor Overload
This fault indicates an excessive motor load condition, where the motor's operating current has exceeded the thermal overload limit set by parameter P033 [Motor OLCurrent] for a sustained period. This protects the motor from overheating and damage.
Power Unit
A fault has been detected within the drive's internal power unit hardware. This indicates a potential malfunction of power components such as the rectifier, DC bus capacitors, or inverter IGBTs.
Net Loss
This fault occurs when communication is lost with the network connected to the drive. This means the drive is no longer receiving commands or transmitting data via its communication interface.
Heatsink OvrTmp
This fault indicates that the drive's heatsink temperature has exceeded its safe operating limit. Common causes include obstructions to airflow, accumulated dirt on the fins, or an ambient temperature that is too high.
Comm Loss
Communication has been lost with an adapter or the connected network. This can be due to intentional disconnection, issues with wiring, or failure of a port expander or adapter. The drive's response to this loss is configured by parameter A105 [CommLoss Action].
