Phase U to Gnd
Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 520-series Adjustable Frequency AC Drive
What does F038 mean?
A ground fault has been detected specifically on the U-phase output between the drive and the motor. This points to insulation failure in the U-phase motor winding or its connecting cable, creating an unwanted current path to earth ground. This is a severe electrical safety hazard and can cause significant equipment damage.
Complete Troubleshooting Guide
- 1
Isolate the motor from the drive and perform a megohmmeter (megger) test between the U-phase motor terminal and the motor frame ground, expecting >1 MΩ.
- 2
Inspect the U-phase cable run from the drive to the motor for any damage, pinching, or moisture ingress that could cause a ground fault.
- 3
If the motor and cable test clear, but the fault persists, replace the drive as an internal U-phase ground fault may be present.
