F041

Phase UV Short

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 520-series Adjustable Frequency AC Drive

What does F041 mean?

Excessive current has been detected between the drive's U and V output terminals, indicating a short circuit. This could be a phase-to-phase short in the motor windings or within the cables connecting the drive to the motor. This is a critical fault that can cause severe damage to the drive's output power stage (IGBTs) if not immediately addressed.

Complete Troubleshooting Guide

  1. 1

Immediately disconnect power to the drive. Disconnect the motor from the drive and use an ohmmeter to check for a short circuit between the U and V phases of the motor windings and the output cables.

  2. 2

Inspect the motor terminal box and motor lead wiring for any signs of insulation breakdown, chafing, or moisture causing a short.

  3. 3

If the motor and wiring are clear, but the fault persists upon reconnection, replace the drive as an internal short circuit in the power section may exist.
