F091

Encoder Loss

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 520-series Adjustable Frequency AC Drive

What does F091 mean?

One of the two required encoder channel signals (e.g., Channel A or B for differential encoders) is missing. This deprives the drive of accurate feedback on motor speed or position, leading to unstable control, position errors, or complete shutdown in applications requiring precise motion control.

Complete Troubleshooting Guide

  1. 1

Thoroughly inspect all encoder wiring for loose connections, breaks, damage, or improper shielding between the encoder and the drive's feedback terminals.

  2. 2

If using 'Positioning' mode (P047, P049, P051 [Speed Referencex] = 16) with 'Quad Check' feedback (A535 [Motor Fdbk Type] = 5), try swapping the encoder channel inputs or any two motor leads to verify signal integrity.

  3. 3

Check the encoder's power supply and ensure it is receiving the correct voltage.

  4. 4

If wiring is verified, replace the encoder unit as it may be internally faulty.
