Phase VW Short
Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 750 AC Drive
What does 42 mean?
Excessive current has been detected between output terminals V and W, indicating a direct short circuit condition between motor phases V and W. This fault causes extremely high currents and will severely damage the drive's output transistors and the motor windings if not immediately resolved. Prompt investigation of wiring and motor integrity is crucial.
Complete Troubleshooting Guide
- 1
Rotate the U/T1, V/T2, W/T3 motor connections at the drive. If the problem follows the wire (e.g., now a WU short), suspect a field wiring problem or a short within the motor windings themselves.
- 2
If the fault remains on the VW terminals after rotating connections, suspect a problem with the drive's output stage for phases V and W.
- 3
Measure the resistance between motor phases (U-V, V-W, W-U) to check for short circuits in the motor or cable; all readings should be balanced.
