Over Current

Danfoss · VLT Micro Drive FC 51

What does 20 mean?

An overcurrent condition means the drive's output current to the motor has exceeded its maximum permissible limit. This is a critical fault that can damage the drive's power semiconductors (IGBTs) or the motor, and the drive will trip to protect itself.

Additional Steps

Steps 1–2 are listed in Priority Fix.

  1. 3

Inspect the motor and cabling for phase-to-phase shorts or ground faults (though a separate earth fault would typically trigger first).

  2. 4

Review acceleration/deceleration ramp times; excessively short ramps can cause momentary overcurrents.

  3. 5

Ensure the drive is properly sized for the application and consider upsizing if recurrently tripping on overcurrent with a correctly sized motor.
