FF51

LINE CONV

ABB · ACS560 Standard Control Program Firmware

What does FF51 mean?

A fault has occurred on the line-side converter of the drive system. This indicates a problem with the input power stage that converts AC supply to DC bus voltage, potentially affecting the drive's ability to operate or drawing excessive current.

Common Causes

  • Failure of one or more IGBT/Diode modules within the line-side converter bridge due to overcurrent or overvoltage transients.
  • Loss of one or more input AC phases (e.g., L1, L2, L3) detected at the drive's input terminals.
  • Malfunctioning gate driver board for the line-side converter, failing to switch IGBTs correctly.
  • Excessive ripple on the DC bus voltage due to damaged DC link capacitors, stressing the converter.
  • Input AC voltage outside the permissible operating range (e.g., below 340V or above 480V) for prolonged periods.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. De-energize and lock out power, then measure continuity of each input phase fuse using a multimeter.

  2. 2

    2. Measure the input AC voltage (L1-L2, L2-L3, L3-L1) at the drive's input terminals and compare to nominal supply voltage.

  3. 3

    3. With power isolated, perform a diode check on the input rectifier bridge (or IGBTs) using a multimeter in diode mode, comparing values for each phase.

  4. 4

    4. Inspect the DC link capacitors for physical signs of damage (e.g., bulging, leakage) and measure their capacitance if possible.

  5. 5

    5. Verify the integrity of control wiring and connections to the gate driver board for the line-side converter.
