Output Filter Choke Overtemperature

ABB · ACS560 Standard Control Program Firmware

What does FF82 mean?

The output filter choke of the drive is experiencing excessive temperature. This supervision is active in step-up drives and points to inadequate cooling or excessive current through the choke, which can lead to overheating and potential damage to the filter components, impacting drive output quality.

Common Causes

  • Blocked ventilation or cooling fan failure for the output filter choke assembly.
  • Continuous operation at motor current exceeding the choke's rated current capacity (e.g., motor current r0027 consistently > rated current).
  • Harmonic distortion in the output current caused by non-linear loads or incorrect motor parameters.
  • High ambient temperature in the drive cabinet causing overall component overheating.
  • Internal short or winding degradation within the output filter choke.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect the output filter choke for dust accumulation or debris blocking cooling fins. Clean any obstructions.

  2. 2

Verify the operation of any dedicated cooling fans for the output filter choke by checking for airflow and fan rotation.

  3. 3

Monitor the actual motor current (e.g., r0027) during operation to ensure it does not consistently exceed the choke's current rating.

  4. 4

Measure the ambient temperature within the control cabinet near the choke; ensure it is within the specified operating range (e.g., <40°C).

  5. 5

Check for correct motor parameters (e.g., P03-01 to P03-08) configured in the drive, as incorrect values can lead to improper motor control and choke stress.
