30029

Controller under-temperature (_ecUNDER_TEMPERATUR E)

ABB · ACS850 Standard Program Firmware

What does 30029 mean?

The controller has detected that the ambient temperature around the drive has fallen below its minimum operating threshold of -5°C. Operating below the specified temperature range can lead to unreliable performance or damage to electronic components. The drive will prevent enablement until conditions are suitable.

Common Causes

  • The drive is operating in an unheated industrial environment (e.g., cold storage, outdoor cabinet) where ambient temperatures regularly drop below -5°C.
  • A malfunction of the enclosure heater or temperature control system designed to maintain the drive's operating temperature.
  • Air flow from external cooling systems (e.g., HVAC) directly impinging on the drive, causing localized cooling.
  • The drive has recently been powered on after a prolonged period in sub-zero temperatures.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the ambient air temperature directly around the drive using a calibrated thermometer to confirm it is indeed below -5°C.

  2. 2

Install or verify the operation of an enclosure heater (e.g., 50W, 100W) or thermal management system to maintain the temperature above the minimum operating threshold (e.g., 0°C).

  3. 3

Relocate the drive to an environment where the minimum operating temperature can be consistently maintained, or ensure existing heating systems are functional.

  4. 4

Ensure that cold air drafts from facility HVAC systems are not directly blowing onto the drive.

  5. 5

Allow the drive to warm up to its specified operating temperature range (e.g., above -5°C) before attempting to enable or operate the motor.
