Write-Protected Parameter

ABB · ACS880

What does 4 mean?

The system attempted to write a value to a parameter that is currently configured as write-protected. This prevents accidental or unauthorized changes to critical configuration settings. If left unresolved, the desired parameter change will not be applied.

Common Causes

  • Drive parameter P0-02 (Parameter Write Access) is set to 'Read-only' (e.g., value 0), preventing any modifications to other parameters.
  • The drive is in an operating state (e.g., running with P0-01 set to 'Run') that prohibits changes to certain motion-critical or safety-related parameters (e.g., P3-01, P4-02).
  • A user or PLC program is attempting to write to a parameter that is inherently write-protected (e.g., firmware version information P0-00 or diagnostic counters P9-01) and cannot be changed.
  • Access level restrictions are active (e.g., P0-03 set to 'Standard User'), preventing modification of parameters requiring higher privileges.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Set drive parameter P0-02 (Parameter Write Access) to 'Read/Write' (e.g., value 1) to enable parameter modifications.

  2. 2

    2. Command the drive to 'Stop' via parameter P0-01 (Command Source) or the digital input assigned to the stop function (e.g., DI1) before attempting to write critical parameters.

  3. 3

    3. Enter the appropriate supervisor or expert password via parameter P0-04 (Access Password) if higher privilege levels are required to modify the target parameter.

  4. 4

    4. Confirm the target parameter is not an intrinsic read-only parameter (e.g., serial number P0-05) by consulting the drive's parameter manual.
