Charging feedback

ABB · ACS880

What does 5697 mean?

The feedback signal from the charging system is missing or not detected. This typically indicates a problem with the charging circuit or its monitoring, which could prevent the drive's DC bus from charging correctly, leading to operational failure or preventing the drive from starting.

Common Causes

  • Failure of the pre-charge resistors in the DC bus charging circuit (open circuit).
  • Charging contactor or relay in the pre-charge circuit has failed to close its contacts.
  • Fault in the DC bus voltage sensing circuit, preventing proper feedback to the control board.
  • Failure of the drive's internal auxiliary power supply that energizes the charging control.
  • A short circuit on the DC bus (P+, N-) preventing the voltage from rising during pre-charge.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. De-energize the drive and wait for the DC bus voltage to discharge completely (monitor P0-01).

  2. 2

    2. Measure the resistance of the pre-charge resistors (e.g., R1, R2) with an ohmmeter; ensure they are not open circuit.

  3. 3

    3. Verify control voltage (e.g., 24VDC) is present and stable on the control board.

  4. 4

    4. Check the operation and continuity of the charging contactor or relay contacts (if external or internal and accessible).

  5. 5

    5. Measure the DC bus voltage across P+ and N- terminals during a restart attempt to observe if voltage begins to rise.
