7080

Option module comm loss

ABB · ACS880

What does 7080 mean?

Communication between the drive and an option module has been lost. This means the functionality provided by that specific option module is unavailable. The drive may continue to operate but without the features of the affected module.

Common Causes

  • Option module not securely seated in its expansion slot, causing intermittent electrical contact.
  • Damaged option module connector pins or a faulty option module itself.
  • Firmware incompatibility between the drive and the option module, especially after a drive firmware update.
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) interference on the internal communication bus due to improper grounding or cable routing.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power down the drive completely (main power disconnect). Physically remove the option module, inspect its pins for damage, and firmly reinsert it into its slot.

  2. 2

Verify the drive's `P70.01` (Option Module 1 presence) and related parameters to confirm the drive recognizes the module after power-up.

  3. 3

Check the option module's LED indicators (if present) for status or fault codes to diagnose its internal state.

  4. 4

Verify that the drive firmware version is compatible with the option module's firmware version, referring to the manufacturer's compatibility matrix.

  5. 5

Temporarily swap the option module with a known-good identical module to isolate whether the issue is the module or the drive's slot.
