7081

Control panel loss

ABB · ACS880

What does 7081 mean?

The control panel (or PC tool) has stopped communicating with the drive. This prevents operator interaction and monitoring through the panel. If communication is not restored, local control and diagnostics are unavailable. The auxiliary code specifies the I/O port affected.

Common Causes

  • Control panel communication cable (e.g., RJ45) is loose, damaged, or disconnected from the drive or panel port.
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) interference on the communication bus due to unshielded cables routed near power conductors or poor grounding.
  • Faulty control panel itself, or a damaged communication port on the drive's front panel.
  • Incompatible communication speed or protocol settings (e.g., `P80.01` (Comm port speed) mismatch if manually configured).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect the control panel cable for physical damage, ensuring it is securely connected to both the drive's communication port and the control panel port.

  2. 2

Power cycle the drive (main power disconnect for at least 30 seconds) and the control panel to re-establish the communication link.

  3. 3

Connect a PC tool (e.g., `DriveManager` via USB or Ethernet) to the drive to determine if communication can be established, isolating the panel as a potential single point of failure.

  4. 4

Verify the drive's internal communication settings (e.g., `P80.01` (Comm port speed)) match the expected settings for the panel.

  5. 5

Temporarily replace the control panel with a known-good panel to confirm if the panel itself is faulty.
