9082

External fault 2

ABB · ACS880

What does 9082 mean?

A fault has occurred in an external device connected to the drive's external event input 2. This general fault indicates a critical issue with peripheral equipment that the drive is monitoring and requires immediate attention. The drive will trip to protect itself or the process.

Common Causes

  • A secondary external protective device (e.g., motor thermal switch, auxiliary contactor fault) connected to DI2 has tripped.
  • Physical damage or loose connection in the wiring connecting the external fault source to the drive's digital input 2 (e.g., terminal DI2).
  • An unexpected external condition causing the fault input to activate (e.g., fire alarm signal, interlock switch).
  • Parameter P4-02 'DI2 function' is set to an external fault input and has been triggered by its defined condition.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Identify the specific external device connected to digital input DI2 (e.g., via electrical schematics) and check its operational status.

  2. 2

    2. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at drive terminal DI2 (relative to GND) to confirm the signal status from the external device.

  3. 3

    3. Inspect the cable run from the external fault device to the drive's DI2 terminal for integrity and secure connections.

  4. 4

    4. Temporarily bypass the external fault device by disconnecting its wire from DI2 and connecting DI2 directly to 24VDC (if N.O.) or 0VDC (if N.C.) to test the input circuit.

  5. 5

    5. Confirm parameter P4-02 'DI2 function' is correctly assigned for the intended external fault monitoring.
