A582

Auxiliary fan not running

ABB · ACS880

What does A582 mean?

An auxiliary fan fault has been detected; the auxiliary fan is not running. This compromises secondary cooling. During power-up, the drive only generates this warning for two minutes before potentially tripping if the fault persists. Continued operation without auxiliary cooling can lead to overheating.

Common Causes

  • Auxiliary cooling fan's speed feedback signal is intermittently lost or reporting an incorrect low speed.
  • Minor dust accumulation or very slight bearing wear causing the fan to operate at a reduced RPM, but not fully stopped.
  • Loose connector or partially severed wire in the auxiliary fan's signal or power wiring.
  • Short-term voltage dip on the auxiliary fan's power supply causing it to momentarily stall.
  • The drive's internal logic is detecting an auxiliary fan current draw that is outside its expected range (too high or too low).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Visually inspect the auxiliary fan for any visible obstructions or excessive dust and thoroughly clean it.

  2. 2

    2. Listen for the sound of the auxiliary fan during startup and operation to detect any abnormal noises (e.g., grinding, clicking).

  3. 3

    3. Verify that the auxiliary fan's electrical connector is securely seated on the drive's control board and at the fan unit itself.

  4. 4

    4. Check the drive's internal fault history log for intermittent occurrences of this warning, indicating a transient issue.

  5. 5

    5. Monitor the auxiliary fan's actual speed or status via drive diagnostic parameters (if available) to identify intermittent operation.
