EFB load fault

ACS880 · Spinning and Traverse Control Program Firmware

What does 6684 mean?

The embedded fieldbus (EFB) protocol firmware could not be loaded into the drive. This fault is often caused by a version mismatch between the EFB protocol firmware and the main drive firmware, or by a corrupted firmware image.

Common Causes

  • Incompatible firmware versions between the EFB protocol and the drive's main control program.
  • Corrupted EFB protocol firmware image, preventing successful loading.
  • An internal drive memory or hardware issue hindering the loading process of the EFB firmware.
  • Interrupted power supply or instability during the drive's boot-up sequence where firmware loading occurs.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the firmware versions of both the drive's main control program and the embedded fieldbus protocol. Ensure they are compatible according to ABB's documentation.

  2. 2

Attempt to re-download or update the EFB protocol firmware if a newer or compatible version is available from ABB.

  3. 3

Perform a controlled power cycle of the drive to initiate a clean boot-up sequence and attempt a fresh reload of the EFB firmware.

  4. 4

Ensure the drive has a stable and uninterrupted power supply during the boot process to prevent loading failures.

  5. 5

If the fault persists, it may indicate a deeper internal issue. Contact ABB support, providing the drive's firmware version and any installed EFB module details.
