F101

External Storage

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 520-series Adjustable Frequency

What does F101 mean?

The external non-volatile storage, often used for backing up or expanding parameter storage, has failed. This fault indicates a problem with the memory component where drive settings are permanently saved, potentially leading to lost configurations or inability to save changes.

Common Causes

  • The removable memory module (e.g., SD card, memory stick) is not properly seated in its slot on the drive's control module.
  • Corruption of the data stored on the external memory module, preventing the drive from reading valid information.
  • Failure of the external memory module itself (e.g., wear-out, physical damage).
  • Incompatibility between the external memory module and the drive's firmware version or model.
  • Dust, debris, or oxidation on the external storage module's contacts or the drive's slot connectors.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power down the drive completely, then remove the external memory module and carefully clean its contacts with a lint-free swab and isopropyl alcohol.

  2. 2

    2. Re-insert the external memory module firmly into its slot until it clicks into place (if applicable) and power up the drive.

  3. 3

    3. If a spare external memory module is available, insert it into the drive and attempt to save or load parameters.

  4. 4

    4. Attempt to reformat the external memory module (if supported by the drive's menu, e.g., P1-xx for memory card functions) and then save parameters.

  5. 5

    5. Check the drive's firmware version and consult the manual for compatible external storage module types and capacities.
