F110

Keypad Membrane

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 520-series Adjustable Frequency

What does F110 mean?

A failure has occurred in the keypad membrane or its connection to the control module. This means the drive's local human-machine interface (HMI) is malfunctioning, preventing manual operation, parameter changes, or fault clearing from the keypad.

Common Causes

  • Physical damage to the keypad membrane itself (e.g., punctures, tears, excessive force applied to buttons).
  • Contamination (e.g., dust, liquids, oil) beneath the keypad membrane preventing button presses from registering or causing phantom presses.
  • Failure of the flexible flat cable (FFC) connecting the keypad membrane to the control module's PCB.
  • Oxidation or corrosion on the keypad's contact points or the control module's FFC connector.
  • Internal failure of the control module's keypad interface circuitry.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power down the drive, then carefully remove the keypad membrane (if detachable) and inspect its backside and connection for visible damage or contamination.

  2. 2

    2. Clean the flexible flat cable (FFC) connector and the corresponding slot on the control module with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free swab.

  3. 3

    3. Re-seat the keypad membrane's FFC firmly into its connector on the control module, ensuring correct orientation.

  4. 4

    4. If a spare keypad is available, replace the existing keypad with the new one and test all buttons for responsiveness.

  5. 5

    5. Attempt to operate the drive and change parameters using a remote Human Interface Module (HIM) or software (e.g., Connected Components Workbench) to bypass the local keypad.
