F114

uC Failure

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 520-series Adjustable Frequency

What does F114 mean?

A critical microprocessor failure has occurred within the drive's control module. This indicates a severe internal hardware or firmware issue with the central processing unit, which can lead to unpredictable behavior, persistent faults, or complete operational failure.

Common Causes

  • Catastrophic internal hardware failure of the drive's main microprocessor (uC) on the control module.
  • Corrupt or invalid firmware loaded onto the microprocessor, preventing it from executing its boot sequence correctly.
  • Critical internal power supply voltage to the microprocessor is unstable or absent.
  • Overheating of the microprocessor due to inadequate cooling or environmental factors.
  • ESD event or severe voltage transient damaging the sensitive microprocessor circuitry.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power cycle the drive completely (disconnect all power for at least 60 seconds) and observe if the fault clears upon restart.

  2. 2

    2. Check the drive's internal cooling fan operation and ensure ambient temperature is within specified limits (e.g., 0-50°C).

  3. 3

    3. Attempt to re-flash the drive's firmware (if supported via software like Connected Components Workbench) to resolve potential corruption.

  4. 4

    4. If a spare control module is available, replace the existing module with the known good one to isolate the hardware fault.

  5. 5

    5. Inspect the control module's PCB for any visible signs of component damage, burnt traces, or swollen capacitors.
