F127

Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 520-series Adjustable Frequency

What does F127 mean?

A critical firmware problem has been detected, forcing the drive to operate using backup firmware which only supports DSI communications. This is a degraded operating mode with limited functionality. A full firmware flash update via DSI is necessary to restore complete drive features and stable operation.

Common Causes

  • Primary operating firmware in the flash memory is corrupted or unreadable, often due to an interrupted firmware update or power failure during the write process.
  • Mismatch between the primary firmware version and the drive's bootloader or hardware revision, preventing normal execution of the main operating system.
  • Hardware defect within the primary flash memory block, forcing the drive to revert to the read-only DSI-compatible backup firmware.
  • Failed integrity check of the primary firmware image during the drive's initialization sequence, indicating a corrupted file.
  • Incorrect drive model or hardware configuration detected by the drive, triggering a fallback to the minimal operational state for safety.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Connect to the drive using DSI communication via a compatible interface (e.g., 20-HIM-A6 DSI adapter) and a software utility (e.g., DriveTools SP).

  2. 2

Confirm the currently loaded firmware version (e.g., check parameter P0-00 'Firmware Version') is indeed the backup/DSI-only version.

  3. 3

Identify the correct full operational firmware version compatible with the drive's catalog number and hardware revision (e.g., from the drive nameplate).

  4. 4

Perform a controlled firmware update to load the full operational firmware image, ensuring uninterrupted 24VDC control power throughout the process.

  5. 5

After the update, cycle both the 24VDC control power and the main input power (L1, L2, L3) to force a complete drive reset and primary firmware re-initialization.

  6. 6

Verify that all normal communication interfaces (e.g., Ethernet/IP, USB) are restored and that the drive reports the correct operational firmware version (e.g., P0-00).
