FB MUTING Bit 2

Muting Discrepancy Error - Muting Group 2

Beckhoff · TwinSAFE Logic FB

What does FB MUTING Bit 2 mean?

A discrepancy has been detected in muting input group 2 (e.g., MuteIn3/MuteIn4) within the FB MUTING function block. This means the redundant muting sensors are not switching synchronously or are reporting different states, which can compromise the safe muting function, potentially leading to an unsafe bypass of a safety device. This triggers a safety stop.

Common Causes

  • Physical damage or misalignment of one muting sensor in group 2 (e.g., MuteIn3, MuteIn4).
  • Accumulation of dirt or condensation on the optical surfaces of MuteIn3 or MuteIn4.
  • Incorrect wiring or loose terminal connections for muting input group 2 to the safety controller (e.g., terminals X3.1, X3.2).
  • Malfunctioning internal components of MuteIn3 or MuteIn4, leading to delayed or missing signals.
  • Reflection from shiny objects in the sensing area causing false triggers for one sensor.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Confirm the physical alignment and secure mounting of both muting sensors (MuteIn3, MuteIn4) in group 2.

  2. 2

    2. Thoroughly clean the optical surfaces of MuteIn3 and MuteIn4 using a lint-free cloth and appropriate cleaning solution.

  3. 3

    3. Use a digital multimeter to measure the signal voltage (e.g., 24VDC when active) directly at the output of MuteIn3 and MuteIn4.

  4. 4

    4. Verify the integrity of the cabling for muting input group 2 by checking for continuity and insulation resistance.

  5. 5

    5. Check the parameter settings for muting discrepancy time (e.g., P_MuteDiscTime) in the safety configuration for group 2, adjusting if too restrictive.
