Overload of digital output on X30/6 or X30/7

Danfoss · VLT AutomationDrive FC 301/302

What does 42 mean?

A digital output on either terminal X30/6 or X30/7 (on MCB 101) is overloaded. This indicates excessive current draw from the connected load or a short-circuit on one of these terminals.

Common Causes

  • Short-circuit on the external wiring connected to either terminal X30/6 or X30/7 to ground or another potential.
  • Load connected to X30/6 or X30/7 drawing current above the specified maximum output current (e.g., 500mA per terminal).
  • Internal fault on the MCB 101 control board affecting the output transistor for X30/6 or X30/7.
  • Incorrectly configured output type (e.g., sourcing vs. sinking) for the connected load in parameter 5-30 or 5-31.
  • Damage to the terminal block (X30) pins causing an internal short.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Disconnect all external wiring from terminals X30/6 and X30/7 on the MCB 101 board.

  2. 2

Power up the drive and verify if the fault clears; if it does, the issue is external to the drive.

  3. 3

Use a multimeter to measure the resistance between X30/6 and X30/7 to 0V (e.g., terminal X30/8) on the disconnected loads to check for short-circuits.

  4. 4

Measure the current draw of each external load individually (e.g., using a clamp meter) to ensure it is within the rated limits for MCB 101 outputs.

  5. 5

Inspect the wiring connected to X30/6 and X30/7 for insulation breakdown or mechanical damage.
