Parameter value outside of minimum/maximum limits

Danfoss · VLT AutomationDrive FC 301/302

What does 783 mean?

A parameter has been configured with a value that falls outside its acceptable minimum or maximum range. This prevents the drive from operating correctly and can lead to unexpected behavior.

Common Causes

  • Manual entry of a parameter value beyond its defined upper or lower limit (e.g., P1-03 Motor speed [rpm] set to 50000 where max is 3600).
  • Automatic parameter calculation (e.g., during auto-tune) resulting in an invalid value that is not constrained by software.
  • Attempted download of an incompatible parameter set from a different drive model or older firmware version.
  • External fieldbus command attempting to write an out-of-range value to a specific parameter.
  • Corruption of the parameter database in non-volatile memory leading to an invalid default value upon power-up.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Identify the specific parameter number (e.g., P1-03) and its invalid value that triggered the fault, usually displayed on the LCP.

  2. 2

    2. Navigate to the identified parameter (e.g., P1-03) on the LCP and adjust its value to be within the specified minimum and maximum limits (e.g., 0-3600 rpm).

  3. 3

    3. If the parameter was set via a fieldbus, verify the PLC/controller logic that is writing to the drive's parameter address.

  4. 4

    4. Perform a factory reset (P8-01 to [1] Factory reset) to restore all parameters to their default values (record current settings first).

  5. 5

    5. If the fault occurs after loading a parameter backup, review the backup file for any parameter values that exceed limits for the current drive model or firmware.
