No motor connected

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive FC 102

What does 3 mean?

No motor is detected connected to the output of the frequency converter. This prevents the drive from starting or operating correctly, as it expects a motor load. Attempting to run without a motor can cause issues with the drive's output stage.

Common Causes

  • Motor output terminals (U, V, W) disconnected or incorrectly wired to the drive.
  • High resistance or open circuit in one or more motor phases (U, V, W) preventing detection.
  • Motor's internal windings (e.g., phase A-B, B-C, C-A) have an open circuit.
  • Drive's output stage (IGBTs or current sensors) internal fault preventing motor detection.
  • Incorrect motor parameter settings (e.g., P1-03 Motor Rated Current, P1-04 Motor Rated Speed) that do not match the physical motor.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the motor wiring physically connected to the drive output terminals (U, V, W) for proper connection and tightness.

  2. 2

Measure the resistance between each pair of motor output terminals (U-V, V-W, W-U) with the motor disconnected from the drive. Readings should be balanced and within manufacturer specifications.

  3. 3

Measure the insulation resistance of each motor phase to ground using a megohmmeter. Readings should be in the MΩ range.

  4. 4

Ensure drive parameters P1-03 (Motor Rated Current) and P1-04 (Motor Rated Speed) are correctly configured for the connected motor.

  5. 5

Attempt to perform an Automatic Motor Adaptation (AMA) or motor identification routine, if available in the drive's menu.
