Inrush fault

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive FC 102

What does 33 mean?

Too many power-ups have occurred within a short time period, leading to excessive inrush current events. This frequent power cycling prevents the unit from dissipating heat and can stress internal components, potentially shortening the drive's lifespan.

Common Causes

  • Excessive number of power cycles within a short time period (e.g., >5 cycles per minute), stressing internal components.
  • Faulty pre-charge circuit components (e.g., inrush current limiting resistors, bypass contactor) on the power card.
  • Main input contactor chattering or failing to close cleanly, causing multiple inrush events.
  • Brief power outages or "flicker" on the mains supply line causing rapid power cycling.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Monitor the mains supply voltage for stability and absence of rapid on/off cycles for at least 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    2. Inspect the drive's internal pre-charge circuit (resistors and bypass contactor) for physical damage or wear.

  3. 3

    3. Verify the operation of the external main input contactor; check coil voltage and contact integrity.

  4. 4

    4. Ensure the drive remains powered down for a minimum of 10 minutes between consecutive power cycles to allow capacitor discharge.
