Internal Fault: Option in slot B hardware incompatible

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive FC 102

What does 38.5124 mean?

The hardware of the option card installed in slot B is fundamentally incompatible with the drive's control board hardware. This hardware mismatch prevents the option card from functioning correctly and may lead to system instability or other operational faults.

Common Causes

  • Installation of an option card from a different product family or manufacturer that is physically compatible but not logically supported by the drive's main control board.
  • Physical damage to the option card's hardware (e.g., damaged circuit traces, failed components) preventing proper identification by the main drive.
  • Damage to the option slot B connector pins on the main control board, preventing proper electrical communication.
  • Incorrectly ordered or supplied option card for the specific frequency converter model and its hardware revision.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Note the exact part number of the frequency converter and the option card installed in slot B.

  2. 2

    2. Refer to the manufacturer's product documentation or compatibility matrix to confirm that the installed option card (by its part number) is indeed hardware compatible with the frequency converter model.

  3. 3

    3. Completely de-energize the frequency converter and wait for the DC bus capacitors to discharge to a safe voltage level (<50V).

  4. 4

    4. Carefully remove the option card from slot B. Visually inspect the option card's connector pins and the slot B connector on the main board for any physical damage (e.g., bent pins, corrosion, foreign material).

  5. 5

    5. If physical damage is found, replace the damaged component (either the option card or, if feasible, the main control board). If no damage is found, try installing a known good and compatible option card.
