Power card temperature

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive FC 102

What does 69 mean?

The temperature sensor on the power card indicates that it is either too hot or too cold, exceeding safe operating limits. Extreme temperatures can severely affect the power components (IGBTs, capacitors), leading to reduced lifespan, performance issues, or immediate failure of the drive if not corrected.

Common Causes

  • Ambient temperature in the enclosure exceeds the maximum operating limit (e.g., 40°C) or falls below the minimum limit (e.g., 0°C).
  • Cooling fan for the power card is blocked, faulty, or operating at reduced speed (e.g., due to bearing failure).
  • Heatsink fins on the power card are blocked with dust or debris, impeding heat dissipation.
  • Internal power card temperature sensor malfunction or calibration drift.
  • Excessive load on the motor causing high current draw and increased heat generation in the IGBTs.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Measure the internal enclosure temperature and ensure it remains within the drive's specified operating range (e.g., 0-40°C).

  2. 2

    2. Visually inspect the drive's cooling fan(s) for proper rotation, physical damage, or excessive noise.

  3. 3

    3. Clean the heatsink fins on the power card thoroughly, removing all dust and obstructions using compressed air.

  4. 4

    4. Monitor parameter P16-30 (Heatsink temperature) and compare it against other temperature sensors or a calibrated thermal probe.
