SP0029

Short-Time Overload

Fanuc · AC Spindle Motor Alpha i-Beta i Series Parameters

What does SP0029 mean?

The spindle motor has experienced a short-duration overload condition, exceeding its temporary torque limits. This can occur during heavy cutting or rapid acceleration/deceleration.

Common Causes

  • Spindle motor is commanded to produce torque beyond its momentary rating.
  • Rapid acceleration or deceleration commands are too aggressive.
  • Machine load suddenly increases beyond expected levels.
  • Parameter P2-14 (Short time overload limit) is set too low.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Review programmed feed rates and spindle speeds for sudden changes.

  2. 2

Measure motor torque output or current draw (P5-04) during transient load.

  3. 3

Adjust P2-14 parameter to a more suitable value for the application.

  4. 4

Examine machine operation for unexpected mechanical binding.
