Over-current of Discharge Current (ECM)

Fanuc · Alpha i Series AC Servo Motor and Spindle

What does 4 mean?

An over-current condition has occurred in the discharge current path from the Capacitor Modules of the ECM. This indicates a problem with the discharge circuit, potentially during emergency stop or an internal fault.

Common Causes

  • Excessive discharge current from the motor exceeds ECM's rated limit.
  • Short circuit within the motor windings or drive components.
  • Sudden heavy load applied to the motor during operation.
  • Incorrect motor model or parameters configured in the drive (e.g., P1-01 to P1-09).
  • Motor encoder signal failure causing incorrect speed feedback.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect the wiring and connections from the Capacitor Modules to the discharge circuit.

  2. 2

Verify the operation of the Resistor Module, which is used for discharging.

  3. 3

Check the Capacitor Modules for any signs of damage or internal shorts.
