1038

CONTACTOR OPEN

Kone · Elevator Control

What does 1038 mean?

The motor controller (codes 1038, 2038, 3038) has detected that the main contactor is open when it should be closed. This indicates a contactor control issue, preventing power to the motor. The specific lift reaction is controller dependent.

Common Causes

  • Contactor failed to close (e.g., mechanical jam, broken spring).
  • Contactor coil open circuit or insufficient control voltage.
  • Contactor feedback circuit fault, indicating a false open status.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the output signal from the motor controller to the main contactor coil for presence and correct voltage.

  2. 2

Measure the voltage across the main contactor coil terminals while the controller attempts to close it, comparing against nominal coil voltage.

  3. 3

Inspect the main contactor's auxiliary contacts for proper mechanical operation and continuity when the contactor is commanded closed.

  4. 4

Check all wiring connections related to the main contactor, including power, control, and feedback circuits, for looseness, corrosion, or damage.

  5. 5

Verify relevant motor controller parameters pertaining to contactor control and feedback for correct configuration.
