0016

OC6 I²xt overload

Lenze · 9300 Series

What does 0016 mean?

This fault is triggered by frequent and excessively long acceleration processes with motor overcurrent, or permanent motor overload where the motor current (Imotor) exceeds the rated motor current (Irmotor). The drive or motor dimensioning may be inadequate for the application's continuous or peak load requirements.

Common Causes

  • Sustained operation with motor current (Imotor) exceeding the motor's rated current (C0091), causing continuous I²xt accumulation and thermal stress.
  • Rapid cycling or frequent starts/stops with short dwell times, preventing the motor and drive from dissipating heat effectively between operations.
  • Mechanical issues in the driven load such as seized bearings, misalignment, or excessive friction, leading to consistently higher torque and current demand.
  • Insufficient ventilation for the motor, hindering heat dissipation and causing its internal temperature to rise, leading to current derating.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the motor's current (e.g., using a multimeter on X1/ANALOG_OUT, or clamp meter on motor phases) during typical operation and compare to C0091.

  2. 2

Increase the acceleration and deceleration times (C0012, C0013) to minimize transient overcurrents during speed changes.

  3. 3

Inspect the mechanical load for any binding, damage, or misalignment that could increase torque requirements.

  4. 4

Verify the motor's cooling fan is operational and that cooling fins are clear of dust and debris, ensuring adequate airflow.

  5. 5

Check ambient temperature around the motor and drive, ensuring it is within specified operating limits (e.g., <40°C or 50°C).

  6. 6

Adjust the motor overload factor (e.g., parameter C0062) if the application legitimately has short-term overloads followed by cooling periods.
