What does 050 mean?

The heatsink temperature has exceeded +90°C. This is often caused by an ambient temperature greater than +40°C or +50°C, a dirty heatsink, or an incorrect mounting position, leading to potential overheating.

Common Causes

  • Accumulation of dust, dirt, or debris on the drive's heatsink fins, severely impeding heat dissipation.
  • Ambient temperature in the control cabinet or operating environment exceeds the drive's specified maximum (e.g., +40°C or +50°C).
  • Drive cooling fan malfunction (e.g., seized bearing, broken blades, electrical fault), preventing adequate airflow across the heatsink.
  • Restricted airflow around the drive due to improper mounting (e.g., insufficient clearance above/below) or clogged cabinet ventilation filters.
  • Continuous operation at high current loads (e.g., 90-100% of rated current) in a confined or poorly ventilated space.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power down and lockout the drive, then use compressed air to thoroughly clean the heatsink fins, removing all dust and debris.

  2. 2

    2. Measure the ambient temperature inside the control cabinet with a thermometer and ensure it is below the drive's maximum specified operating temperature.

  3. 3

    3. Inspect the drive's cooling fan for proper operation (rotation, noise, airflow) and check for any obstructions to its blades.

  4. 4

    4. Verify that the control cabinet's ventilation system (fans, filters) is clean and functioning correctly, providing adequate air exchange.

  5. 5

    5. Check mounting clearances around the drive to ensure free airflow as specified in the drive's installation manual.
