Sd5

Encoder error at X6/1 and X6/2

Lenze · 9300 Series

What does Sd5 mean?

The current signal at analog input X6/1 and X6/2 is less than 2mA, indicating an issue with the encoder or its wiring. This monitoring is only possible if C0034 = 1, and its failure means loss of accurate position feedback.

Common Causes

  • Open circuit in the 4-20mA current loop of the encoder signal between the encoder output and X6/1 or X6/2 input terminal.
  • Faulty current output stage of the encoder, leading to a signal below 2mA even when operational.
  • Incorrect wiring of the current loop, such as reversed polarity or incorrect series connection with the input resistor.
  • Input impedance mismatch at X6/1 or X6/2 preventing the proper measurement of the 4-20mA signal.
  • Parameter C0034 set to 1, enabling 4-20mA monitoring, but the encoder is not a current-loop type or is configured for voltage output.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power off the drive, disconnect the encoder signal from X6/1 and X6/2, and measure the current directly from the encoder output using a multimeter.

  2. 2

Verify parameter C0034 is set to 1 for 4-20mA current monitoring; confirm the encoder is indeed a 4-20mA current output type.

  3. 3

Inspect the cable connecting the encoder to X6/1 and X6/2 for continuity, shorts, and correct polarity.

  4. 4

Measure the input impedance at X6/1 and X6/2 (typically 250 Ohm for 4-20mA input) to ensure it matches the encoder's requirements.

  5. 5

Check the encoder's power supply voltage at its terminals (e.g., 24VDC) to ensure it is operating correctly.

  6. 6

If the encoder output is confirmed below 2mA, replace the encoder. If the encoder output is correct, the issue might be with the drive's input circuit.
