x053

OH3 Motor temperature > +150°C threshold

Lenze · 9300 Series

What does x053 mean?

The motor temperature has exceeded the +150°C threshold, detected via resolver or incremental value encoder (e.g., KTY sensor at X8/5, X8/8). This indicates the motor is thermally overloaded due to impermissible continuous current or frequent/long acceleration processes. This monitoring can be switched off via C0583.

Common Causes

  • Continuous operation with motor current (Imotor) significantly above the motor's rated current (C0091) due to mechanical overload.
  • Inadequate motor cooling due to a failed or blocked motor cooling fan, blocked cooling fins, or high ambient temperature (e.g., >50°C).
  • Incorrect motor thermal model parameters in the drive (e.g., C0090, C0091, C0092) or incorrect sensor type selection (e.g., C0053).
  • Mechanical binding or excessive friction in the driven machine (e.g., worn bearings, misalignment), leading to increased power dissipation.
  • Malfunctioning motor temperature sensor (e.g., KTY sensor) connected to terminals X8/5, X8/8, providing an erroneous high reading.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the actual motor operating current (e.g., clamp meter on phase U) and compare it to the motor nameplate rated current (Ir).

  2. 2

Visually inspect the motor's cooling fan for proper operation and ensure all motor cooling fins are clean and free of obstructions.

  3. 3

Verify the motor temperature sensor type (e.g., KTY, PTC) selection in parameter C0053 matches the actual sensor installed and connected to X8/5, X8/8.

  4. 4

Test the motor temperature sensor's resistance (e.g., KTY sensor between X8/5 and X8/8) and compare it to the sensor's temperature-resistance curve.

  5. 5

Reduce the mechanical load on the motor if possible, or consider upsizing the motor if continuous operation at high current is required.

  6. 6

Check ambient temperature around the motor and ensure it is within the motor's specified operating limits.
