65286

Motor overspeed

Lenze · i550 Protec Drive

What does 65286 mean?

The motor speed has exceeded the error threshold for overspeed, which is defined in parameter 0x2D44:001 (P350.01). This can indicate a loss of control, potential mechanical damage, or an incorrect speed limit setting. The error can only be reset after a 1-second blocking time.

Common Causes

  • Incorrectly set maximum speed limit in Parameter 0x2D44:001 (P350.01), allowing the motor to exceed its safe operating speed.
  • Loss of speed feedback signal (e.g., encoder disconnection, resolver failure) causing the drive to lose speed control.
  • Inaccurate speed sensor calibration or faulty encoder (e.g., incorrect pulses per revolution setting) providing erroneous readings.
  • External mechanical load acting as a generator (e.g., crane lowering) pushing the motor beyond commanded speed without proper braking.
  • Drive's speed control loop instability or poor tuning, leading to oscillations or runaway speed.
  • Mechanical damage to the motor or driven equipment causing excessive friction or inertia, contributing to uncontrolled acceleration.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the current motor speed against the configured overspeed threshold in Parameter 0x2D44:001 (P350.01).

  2. 2

Confirm the functionality of the speed feedback device (e.g., encoder, resolver) by monitoring its raw pulses or analog output.

  3. 3

Inspect the speed feedback cable (e.g., encoder cable) for physical damage, loose connections, or proper shielding.

  4. 4

If using a mechanical brake, verify its operation and engagement during deceleration or power loss conditions.

  5. 5

Adjust the drive's speed controller (P-gain, I-gain, D-gain) parameters for stability, especially during dynamic load changes or high-speed operation.

  6. 6

Monitor the mechanical load on the motor for unusual conditions that might cause overspeed during deceleration or overhauling.
