Write disable error

Write Disable Error

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-D700 Inverter

What does Write disable error mean?

This error occurs when parameter writing is set to be disabled (via Pr. 77 Parameter write selection), when frequency jump ranges (Pr. 31 to Pr. 36) overlap, or when normal communication between the PU and inverter cannot be established. It prevents new parameter settings from being applied, potentially leading to incorrect operation if desired changes are not accepted.

Common Causes

  • Parameter write protection is actively enabled, preventing modification of any parameters (e.g., Pr. 77 set to '0' or '1').
  • Overlap detected between frequency jump range parameters (e.g., Pr. 31 Jump frequency 1, Pr. 32 Jump frequency 2).
  • Communication timeout or data corruption preventing proper parameter writing from an external device (e.g., PLC via RS-485).
  • Firmware inconsistency or corruption requiring a device restart or re-initialization.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Access Pr. 77 (Parameter write selection) and set it to '2' (Write enabled from any source) to allow parameter modifications.

  2. 2

Review all frequency jump parameters (Pr. 31 to Pr. 36) and adjust values to ensure no ranges overlap (e.g., Pr. 31 high value must be less than Pr. 32 low value).

  3. 3

Verify the communication cable integrity between the inverter and the external control device (e.g., check Modbus RTU wiring on terminals R+, R-).

  4. 4

Confirm communication settings (baud rate, parity, stop bits) in Pr. 117 (Communication speed setting) and the external device.

  5. 5

Cycle power to the inverter and re-attempt the parameter write operation after startup.
