Abnormal Output Current Detection

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-A800 Variable Speed Drive (Separated Converter)

What does E.CDO mean?

This fault indicates that the FR-A800 inverter has detected an abnormal current in its output circuit. This can signify a problem with the motor, motor wiring, or the inverter's output stage.

Common Causes

  • Short circuit or ground fault in the motor power cables or within the motor windings.
  • Overload condition on the motor, causing currents to exceed rated values.
  • Damage or malfunction of the inverter's output current sensors or power semiconductors.
  • Incorrect motor parameters (e.g., Pr.7, Pr.9) or tuning settings (e.g., auto tuning) leading to unstable current control.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Immediately inspect the motor power cables (U, V, W) for any signs of damage, insulation breakdown, or improper connections.

  2. 2

Perform an insulation resistance test on the motor windings and power cables to ground and phase-to-phase using a megohmmeter (expect >1 MΩ).

  3. 3

Check for any mechanical binding, blockage, or excessive load on the motor that could cause overcurrents.

  4. 4

Verify that the motor parameters (Pr.7, Pr.9, etc.) stored in the FR-A800 match the motor nameplate data.

  5. 5

If possible, disconnect the motor and run the inverter with no load (ensure no output phase loss is triggered) to determine if the fault is internal to the inverter or external.
