External Fault During Output Operation

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-A800 Variable Speed Drive (Separated Converter)

What does E.EF mean?

This fault indicates that an external protective device or system has detected an anomaly and triggered an input to the FR-A800 inverter, causing it to trip while it was providing output to the motor.

Common Causes

  • Activation of an external thermal relay, safety switch, limit switch, or other protective device connected to the FR-A800's external fault input terminals (e.g., X50).
  • Incorrect wiring or malfunction of the external fault input circuit.
  • Inappropriate setting of the external fault input (e.g., Pr.155, Pr.156 for input terminal functions, Pr.190-Pr.196 for output terminal functions).
  • External process condition exceeding limits (e.g., over-temperature, low pressure) triggering a protective trip.
  • Electrical noise causing a false trigger on the external fault input.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Identify which external device or system is connected to the FR-A800's external fault input (e.g., X50, X51) and check its status.

  2. 2

Inspect the wiring of the external fault input for any damage, loose connections, or short circuits.

  3. 3

Verify the condition of the external protective device itself (e.g., check contacts of thermal relay, actuation of limit switch).

  4. 4

Check the parameters related to the external fault input (e.g., Pr.155 External thermal relay input, Pr.156 External fault input) to ensure correct configuration.

  5. 5

Ensure that the external process conditions are normal and not triggering the protective device.
