Speed deviation excess detection

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-A800 Variable Speed Drive (Separated Converter)

What does E.OSD mean?

This fault indicates that the motor speed deviation has exceeded a permissible limit as monitored by the FR-A800/A800 Plus Series drive. This suggests a significant discrepancy between the commanded speed and the actual motor speed, typically in applications requiring precise speed control.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect speed control parameters (e.g., PID gains, acceleration/deceleration times) for the application.
  • Motor or load binding, excessive friction, or mechanical resistance preventing the motor from reaching commanded speed.
  • Encoder feedback issue, such as a damaged encoder, loose wiring, or incorrect scaling.
  • Load inertia mismatch or sudden, large load changes that exceed the drive's control capability.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify all speed control parameters, including PID gains, acceleration/deceleration times, and speed limits, are correctly set for the application requirements.

  2. 2

Check for any mechanical binding, obstruction, or excessive load on the motor shaft or driven equipment that could impede speed control.

  3. 3

Inspect the encoder and its wiring for damage, loose connections, or incorrect phasing. Verify the integrity of the encoder feedback signal.

  4. 4

Monitor the actual motor speed and commanded speed through the FR-A800/A800 Plus Series drive's display or FR Configurator2 to understand the nature of the deviation.

  5. 5

Ensure the motor and drive are appropriately sized and tuned for the load inertia and expected dynamic conditions.
