PID Signal Fault

Mitsubishi Electric · FR-A800 Variable Speed Drive (Separated Converter)

What does E.PID mean?

This fault indicates an issue with the feedback signal or control in the FR-A800's internal PID control loop. This prevents the inverter from accurately regulating a process variable based on the PID controller.

Common Causes

  • Loss or instability of the PID feedback signal (e.g., from a pressure sensor, flow meter, or temperature sensor).
  • Incorrect scaling or range settings for the PID feedback signal in the FR-A800 (e.g., Pr.130-Pr.132 for PID feedback input).
  • Excessive noise or interference on the PID feedback signal line.
  • Failure of the external sensor providing the PID feedback.
  • Incorrect PID parameter tuning (e.g., Pr.133-Pr.136 for PID gains) leading to instability or an inability to reach the setpoint, causing a fault condition.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the wiring of the PID feedback sensor to the FR-A800 for secure connections and continuity.

  2. 2

Measure the PID feedback signal (voltage or current) at the FR-A800 terminals to ensure it is stable and within the expected range.

  3. 3

Check the external sensor providing the PID feedback for proper operation, calibration, and power supply.

  4. 4

Review the PID-related parameters in the FR-A800 (e.g., Pr.130-Pr.132 for feedback input, Pr.133-Pr.136 for PID gains, Pr.139 for PID fault detection) to ensure correct configuration.

  5. 5

If the feedback signal appears correct, try adjusting the PID gains to improve stability, or temporarily disable PID fault detection (if applicable) for diagnosis.
