USB Communication Fault

Mitsubishi Electric · Mitsubishi FR-E800 Variable Frequency Drive

What does E.USB mean?

The inverter output has shut off because USB communication was interrupted for a duration exceeding the time set in Pr.548 USB communication check time interval. This indicates a break in the USB connection or an incorrectly configured communication watchdog timer. Loss of communication will prevent external control and monitoring.

Common Causes

  • Loose or damaged USB cable connection between the inverter and the host device (PC or HMI).
  • Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) disrupting USB data lines due to unshielded cables or proximity to power wiring.
  • Faulty USB port on either the inverter's control board or the connected host device.
  • USB driver software malfunction or incorrect configuration on the host PC or HMI.
  • Parameter Pr.548 (USB communication check time interval) set to an excessively short duration for the communication link.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Replace the existing USB cable with a new, double-shielded (ferrite core recommended) USB 2.0 A-B cable (max 5 meters length).

  2. 2

    2. Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the inverter's USB port and the host device's USB port.

  3. 3

    3. Increase the value of Pr.548 (USB communication check time interval) by 50-100% to allow for minor communication delays.

  4. 4

    4. Test communication using a different USB port on the host device or a different host device, if available.

  5. 5

    5. Verify USB device drivers are correctly installed and free of errors in the host PC's Device Manager.
