ASF

Angle Error

Schneider Electric · Altivar Machine ATV320 Variable Speed Drive

What does ASF mean?

A fault related to an incorrect angle setting, which can impact precise motor control and synchronization. This typically indicates an issue with the feedback device or its configuration.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect encoder offset angle (e.g., Parameter P7-31) after mechanical adjustment, encoder replacement, or motor change.
  • Encoder feedback signal noise due to insufficient shielding, poor grounding (e.g., on cable X1-A, X1-B), or ground loop issues.
  • Damaged encoder disk, broken sensor, or loose mounting causing inconsistent pulse generation or signal loss.
  • Motor phase sequence mismatch with drive output, leading to incorrect commutation angle detection by the control algorithm.
  • Excessive mechanical play, backlash, or slippage in the motor shaft-encoder coupling assembly.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Perform a static autotune (e.g., set Parameter P0-01 = 1) to recalibrate motor parameters and encoder angle offset.

  2. 2

    2. Verify encoder cable connections (e.g., terminals X1/X2, pins A+, A-, B+, B-, Z+, Z-, GND) for secure fit and proper shielding.

  3. 3

    3. Measure encoder power supply voltage (e.g., 5VDC or 24VDC) at the encoder terminals to ensure it is within specified range.

  4. 4

    4. Inspect the encoder for physical damage, contamination, or loose mounting bolts on the motor shaft.

  5. 5

    5. Manually rotate motor shaft to confirm encoder pulses are generated correctly using an oscilloscope on signal lines A and B.
