Battery Over Temperature

Schneider Electric · XW Pro NA Operation Guide

What does F44 mean?

This Automatic Fault indicates a battery over-temperature shutdown at 60 °C to prevent damage to the battery bank. The XW Pro will recover and enable operation again when the temperature falls to 50 °C.

Common Causes

  • Inadequate ventilation or cooling in the battery enclosure, leading to heat buildup (e.g., ambient temperature > 40°C).
  • Excessive charging or discharging current exceeding battery manufacturer specifications, generating internal heat.
  • Faulty battery temperature sensor providing inaccurate readings (e.g., reporting higher temperature than actual).
  • High ambient temperature in the equipment room, especially during peak load or charging cycles.
  • Internal battery cell degradation or short circuit, causing localized overheating.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure the actual battery temperature using an infrared thermometer or thermocouple directly on battery terminals and cell surfaces.

  2. 2

Verify ambient temperature in the battery enclosure and ensure proper airflow, fan operation, and clear ventilation paths are maintained.

  3. 3

Check battery charging/discharging current (e.g., parameter P5-01 for charge current limit) against battery manufacturer specifications.

  4. 4

Inspect the battery temperature sensor (e.g., located on battery terminal or cable) for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

  5. 5

Reduce the charging current limit via inverter parameters (e.g., Parameter P5-01) to decrease heat generation during charging cycles.
