External Battery Stop Command

Schneider Electric · XW Pro NA Operation Guide

What does F76 mean?

This Automatic Fault means battery charging and discharging have been stopped due to a command received from an external source, such as a Battery Management System (BMS). This indicates an external device has initiated a protective shutdown.

Common Causes

  • Command received from an external Battery Management System (BMS) via communication bus (e.g., CAN bus) due to an internal battery fault (e.g., over-temperature, cell imbalance).
  • Remote shutdown command issued from a supervisory control system or monitoring platform connected to the inverter.
  • External safety interlock activated (e.g., emergency stop button on battery cabinet, fire suppression system) sending a stop signal to the inverter.
  • Communication bus error where a spurious 'stop' command is misinterpreted by the inverter (e.g., corrupted CAN message).
  • Incorrect configuration of external control inputs, leading to an unintended 'stop' signal (e.g., digital input DI1 assigned to 'Battery Stop' and inadvertently triggered).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Check the external Battery Management System (BMS) for any active alarms or fault codes that would trigger a stop command.

  2. 2

    2. Review the communication log of the gateway device or BMS for any explicit 'stop' commands sent to the inverter.

  3. 3

    3. Inspect all external control inputs (e.g., digital input terminals DI1-DI4) connected to the inverter for unintended activation or faulty wiring.

  4. 4

    4. Verify the status of any external safety interlocks or emergency stop buttons associated with the battery system or overall installation.

  5. 5

    5. Temporarily disconnect the communication cable from the external BMS to the inverter to see if the fault clears, indicating an issue with the BMS or communication integrity.
