"Timeout MOVI-PLC" fault Rapid stop/warning

SEW Eurodrive · MCBSM

What does 116 mean?

A communication timeout has occurred with the MOVI-PLC, leading to a rapid stop or warning. This indicates a loss of control or data exchange with the PLC, which can halt automated processes or cause unsafe operating conditions.

Common Causes

  • Disconnected or damaged communication cable between the drive and the MOVI-PLC (e.g., Ethernet CAT5e, CAN bus shielded cable).
  • Incorrect communication parameters configured in either the drive (e.g., P8-10, P8-11) or the MOVI-PLC (e.g., baud rate mismatch).
  • Power loss or malfunction of the MOVI-PLC itself, preventing it from responding to communication requests.
  • Incorrect network addressing or duplicate IP addresses (e.g., two devices with 192.168.1.10) causing communication conflicts.
  • Excessive network traffic or electrical noise interfering with the communication link (e.g., unshielded cables near power lines).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Inspect the communication cable (e.g., Ethernet CAT5e, CAN bus shielded cable) for physical damage or loose connections at both ends.

  2. 2

    2. Verify communication parameters in the drive (e.g., P8-10 for fieldbus address, P8-11 for baud rate) match the MOVI-PLC settings.

  3. 3

    3. Check the status LEDs on both the drive's communication module and the MOVI-PLC for active communication or error indications (e.g., flashing green/red).

  4. 4

    4. Ping the MOVI-PLC's IP address from a connected network device to confirm network reachability and latency.

  5. 5

    5. Temporarily bypass the MOVI-PLC communication and operate the drive in local control mode (e.g., via P1-00) to isolate the fault.
