F01030

Sign-of-life failure for master control

Siemens · DCM

What does F01030 mean?

The drive has lost its "sign-of-life" signal from an active PC master control within the configured monitoring time, indicating a communication interruption. Consequently, master control has reverted to the BICO interconnection. This fault stops PC-based control, potentially leading to an uncontrolled state or production halt.

Common Causes

  • Communication cable disconnection or damage between the master controller (e.g., PLC, PC) and the drive interface (e.g., Profibus, Profinet).
  • Master controller software application has stopped sending cyclic data (e.g., control word, setpoints) or sign-of-life bits.
  • Communication interface module on the drive (e.g., CBE20, Profibus CBP) is defective or has incorrect settings (e.g., P918, P922).
  • Excessive communication network load or latency causing timeouts (e.g., higher than P2040 monitoring time).
  • Incorrectly configured monitoring time parameter (e.g., P2040) in the drive, too short for the network conditions.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the physical communication cable integrity (e.g., Profinet RJ45, Profibus DB9 connector) between the master control and the drive.

  2. 2

Check the master controller program logic to ensure the cyclic telegram (e.g., PZD, control word) is actively sending data to the drive.

  3. 3

Increase the monitoring time parameter (e.g., P2040) in the drive configuration in increments (e.g., 100ms, 200ms) to accommodate network latency.

  4. 4

Diagnose the communication interface module status LEDs (e.g., Link/Act, SF on CBE20) for any error indications.

  5. 5

Ping the drive's IP address (for Profinet) or check network status (for Profibus) from the master controller to verify basic network connectivity.

  6. 6

Verify the communication telegram configuration (e.g., P918 for send PZD, P922 for receive PZD) matches both master and drive.
